Guru Nanak Jayanti & Modikhana – November 23, 2018

Sadhu Vaswani Mission, on the auspicious occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Jayanti, held celebrations, satsangs and the annually awaited-modikhana on November 23, 2018.

The session began with mellifluous bhajans and kirtans to the glory of the Guru. The satsang hall of the Mission was brimming with divinity as devotees from all quarters of the city joined in to mark the celebrations.

The commemorations followed on with a recorded upadesh of Rev. Dada J. P. Vaswani. He spoke of the virtues and the ideals that Sri Guru Nanak bore witness to and how he was a true messenger of God.

Rev. Dada then spoke of the modikhana wherein proceeds from purchase of groceries would be utilised for the poor and hungry. Thus, it was time for the modikhana in the Mission.

A total of Rs. 206,200 of groceries were purchased by the devotees and offered for the poor at Modikhana.

“The concept of modikhana is an honest attempt to serve the hungry. There are so many who cannot afford one square meal a day. To them, this is a blessing,” said Sonia Shahani.

“I say this is a great idea wherein everyone gets the opportunity to contribute,” said Deepti Ajwani.

Finally, with the rendition of kirtan, the celebrations came to an end and all devotees partook in guru langar- fellowship meals.

“The Guru langar was true to a traditional Sindhi meal but the difference was it comes from Dada. The service and seva is going on as it would when Dada was physically present. He lives on through the many acts of service, seva, the langar prasad and his teachings,” said Chandru Gurnani.
